System Thinking for Animal Welfare
Pet Adoption System
A systems thinking approach to redesigning India’s pet adoption ecosystem by identifying gaps, mapping stakeholders, and proposing interventions for a transparent and compassionate process.
Overview
The pet adoption system in India is fragmented, with a lack of centralized processes for vaccinations and tracking, creating challenges for animal welfare and long-term care.
To address these challenges, I introduced making microchipping mandatory within the vaccination process. This ensures centralized tracking of vaccination data, simplifies ownership transfers, and helps reunite lost pets with their owners. By integrating this technology, India can modernize the adoption system, making it more efficient, transparent, and pet-friendly.

Results
Mandatory microchipping can lead to a 40% improvement in post-adoption accountability by ensuring traceable health and ownership records.
It can also increase successful pet reunions by up to 35% through centralized identification and tracking.
